Define the operating requirement
Describe whether the sludge is biological, primary or a changing blend. Record solids concentration, upstream chemicals and the installed dewatering machine. A clear filtrate is not a complete success if capture, throughput or cake handling is unacceptable.
State the current limitation, not only the chemical name. A supplier needs to know whether the target is water recovery, capture, drainage or a more stable operating window. Include a representative feed analysis and explain how much the feed changes between shifts.
Evaluate the sludge on the installed machine
Ask for cationic candidates matched to the sludge source and the intended dewatering equipment. Charge density and molecular profile are selection variables, not a reason to assume that the strongest or highest-charge grade is best. Keep preparation water, aging procedure and dose basis consistent during the first comparison.
For a centrifuge, report centrate quality together with solids capture and throughput. For a belt press, describe initial drainage, cake release and filtrate; for a screw press, report discharge stability and feed behaviour. Separate polymer changes from machine-setting changes so a candidate is not approved for a result actually caused by the equipment. Record consumption per dry-solids basis where that is the plant standard.

Keep replenishment traceable
Retain the trial record and identify the approved batch where available. At receipt, check the package condition and labels against the delivery documents before transferring material into shared storage. Plan receiving and repeat supply so the next delivery follows the same specification.
